A name-and-date-of-birth criminal record check run by a Canadian police partner, paired with online biometric ID verification. If a match is found, the report does not list specific convictions; full conviction details require a fingerprint check at a local police station.

Is this a vulnerable sector check?

No. SafeChecker does not perform vulnerable sector checks or issue fingerprint certificates. If a specific position requires a vulnerable sector check, it must be requested through the candidate's local police service.

How long does it take to receive the report?

Reports are issued by our police partners across Canada. Most arrive in your dashboard in under 15 minutes. Some files take longer when manual confirmation is needed.

Does the massage therapist or candidate need to visit an office?

No. They receive a secure link on their phone, scan their government ID, confirm their identity with facial recognition, and sign consent in a few minutes from home.

Can we also screen self-employed massage therapists?

Yes. Whether a practitioner is an employee or an independent contractor working under your spa's banner, the workflow is identical: you send a link and they complete consent on their phone.

Can we decline a candidate because of a criminal record?

In Quebec, the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms prohibits rejecting a candidate for an offence unrelated to the job or one for which a pardon was granted. Assess whether the offence directly relates to spa duties (working alone in treatment rooms, locker room access, or cash handling). When in doubt, consult legal counsel.
